Welcome to this year’s Labor Day cruise to Cape Lookout, a favorite destination for beach combers, kayakers and paddle boarders. Bring your beach chairs and toys, Shibumis and chilled beverages and expect to enjoy this beautiful location.
This cruise is from Saturday, August 30 to September 1st, but we are planning to leave Oriental on Friday, August 29 to arrive at the Bight of Cape Lookout that afternoon if anyone wants to go a day early.
*NOTE: All boat captains are responsible for their own boats and crew. Make your decisions regarding when and if to travel based on your own boat and experience. Please let us know of your arrival and departure dates. Due to a lack of facilities, this is a BYOBeverages and food cruise.
We will be using channel 68 as our communications channel to switch to after hailing on 16. We have found that a 9 am radio hail from us on Channel 68 each day keeps everyone informed and in touch.
Due to the remote nature of the Cape, our cruise activities will be simple and casual. Traditionally, cruisers cook dinner on their respective boats. We’ll have 2 planned gatherings on the anchorage side of the Bight near the beach trail, weather permitting. Our Shibumi will be flying and our chairs set up to mark the spot:
Saturday, August 30 at 4:00 pm
BYOB and bring a light appetizer to share or not. (If arriving Saturday, we want everyone to be relaxed after traveling.) Members will be cooking dinner on their respective boats.
Sunday, August 31 at 4:00 pm
BYOB and bring a more substantial appetizer to share, but members will again be cooking on their boats if still hungry!
If this is your first time anchoring at Cape Lookout, there are a few items to be aware of involving anchoring, depths, swells and tides. We will be providing specific information as the cruise approaches.
Looking forward to seeing you!
