The NSA has various special events each year starting with the Oyster Roast in February and an Shrimperoo in March. The Shrimperoo is open to all current and prospective members and is a wonderful way to get together on the harbor in Oriental. The Oyster Roast, a members-only event, is also held on the harbor. At the Oyster Roast the club reviews the crusing calendar for the coming year and welcomes new members. Want to get in on the ground floor for the fun? Volunteer to assist at these events. You can contact the Vice Commodore /Special Events to get involved. Your ideas and energy are welcome!
In July the NSA sponsors the popular Dinghy Poker Run which is open to anyone. This event is fun for the entire family with the profits going to help fund Heartworks. In the fall, the town of Oriental puts on the Oriental Cup Regatta, which benefits the Bill Harris Memorial College Scholarship Fund for graduates of Pamlico County High School. The NSA sponsors breakfast on Sunday morning for the participants following the regatta on Saturday. Breakfast is followed by the awards ceremony. In recent years, many NSA members have participated in the Oriental Cup Regatta.
The biggest social event of the year is the always popular Commodore’s Ball held in November. This is an especially popular and rewarding event as everyone can reminisce about all of the good times on the water during the year and dance to the music of a live band.
Bridge Meetings. A Bridge Meeting is the term we refer to when our Board of Directors meets. A Bridge Meeting is called by the Commodore whenever he or she feels that there is business to conduct. Usually this is during December and January when most of the planning is done, though some Commodores may choose to schedule quarterly Bridge meetings. The Board of Directors is currently comprised of 16 members made up of the Commodore, seven Vice Commodores, the Immediate Past Commodore, and six directors.
Membership Meetings. The Commodore can call a membership meeting at any time. However, traditionally the club has just one annual full-membership meeting, held on the Saturday in November which coincides with the Commodore's Ball. Club business is addressed, which includes the election of officers and directors for the coming year.
As an NSA member, you can check out our Events List and Events Calendar for a complete listing of all cruising and special events throughout the year.
